One hand is always free, to wave to your audience or to magically produce items.

You can wave a napkin in front of your face for a moment. When you lower it, you’re wearing a wig & funny glasses. Raise it and lower it again, and the disguise is gone. Then raise and lower it and you are wearing a completely different pair of glasses!
